The incident happened on Friday, March 17 around 3:30 a.m., when officers responded to a home in Yorktown for a reported residential burglary, according to Yorktown Police.

After arriving, officers spoke with a "distraught" resident who said that two suspects had entered the home and had remained inside for over half an hour, authorities said.

During the time they were inside the residence, the suspects allegedly assaulted the victim, held them against their will at gunpoint, and stole property before fleeing the scene. Luckily though, the victim was able to identify both suspects.

After this, officers began investigating and found out that the two suspects were in New York City. With the help of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Westchester County PD, and the New York City Police Department, both suspects were found in the Bronx and followed to Manhattan, where they were taken into custody.

The suspects, identified as 34-year-old Darling Read of Elmsford and 29-year-old Jovanda Paredes of the Bronx, were then taken back to Yorktown and charged with the following:

  • Second-degree burglary;
  • Second-degree robbery.

Both Read and Paredes were arraigned in Yorktown Justice Court. Read was held on a $100,000 cash bail or $200,000 bond, and Paredes was held on a $25,000 cash bail or $50,000 bond. Both were unable to post bail and are now being held in Westchester County Jail until their next court date on Thursday, March 23.
